Our Story:

W
elcome to MVC Boer Farm located in Auburn, Kentucky a small hobby farm right in
the heart of South Central Kentucky. We are Micah and Vickie Caudill owners of this
small 10-acre farm.
We really had no intentions of doing really anything with our newly acquired farm.
We both knew we did not want to live in town and we both wanted the peace and quite
of country living.  Both of us, as children, grew up in the country and wanted that life
style back into our lives.
Well, one day sitting around, the thought come up, what should we do with this farm?
It could make us a little money because there was a lot more potential here.  After
going back and forth. It was decided that being that we both loved animals and both
grew up on working farms.  It was unanimous, lets run some type of livestock, but
what?
Well, with just 10 acres, what is the best bang for the buck? What would bring the best
profit with what we have to work with?  To the Internet we go.  Researching different
options cows, horses, alpacas, llamas, you name it, we where looking at it.
Researching one day. I ran across this web site talking about these goats. They where
Boer goats, I had never seen such a goat with it’s size and red head. What was this
animal? This meat goat, where did it come from?  Raising goats for meat? Who eats
goat?
It did not take long before I knew I was sold. It was one of those things that just hit us
and we knew this was for us. We realized this was an up and coming product,
especially here in Kentucky. With the loss of so much tobacco revenue along with so
many different ethnic groups moving into the area.  The demand for small acreage
profit would grow. Raising Boer goat would fit the bill.
The search begin. Where do we find these Boer goats? Back to the Internet to look.
Google Search “ Kentucky Boer Goat Farms” and there it was.  Thank you Jack and
Anita Mauldin your web page made this a breeze.  I made a list, made some calls, did
some visiting.   After about 8 or so different farm visits.  The next question was.  What
side of this business did we want to market ourselves? Show and replacement stock or
in the meat market?  We decided to work with the replacement and show stock side of
the business.
This led us back to a fantastic couple we had met while doing our research and farm
visits. Back to the farm of Roger and Janice Nodine of Southern Belle Farms in
Portland Tennessee. We where so impressed with their knowledge of the business and
willingness to help.  They understood what stage we where at and we felt comfortable
they would be there when we needed them.  They spelled out the pros and cons for us.
Explaining that it would take time to get established and not to expect great rewards
without earning them. Only time and hard work would get us there.
It was not just about making a sell!  It was about helping new friends learn the Boer
goat industry.  It was a decision that we have never regretted making in buying our
first animals from Roger and Janice.  We bought a Buck and two Does that day and that
is how we got started.
We have built from there and this past year got our feet wet in the show arena. We
where pleased with our first show. We come home with 6 ribbons that day, a First place,
second, third and nothing worse than a fifth place finish. Not a bad first time out!  It
just made us excited to see that our hard work was finally starting to show.
We look forward to the years to come and the new friends we will meet. We will
continue to breed for that “Perfect Boer Goat”. We are glad you took the time to stop in
and visit our web site.  Feel free to give us a call or stop by visit awhile.  You will be
treated, just as we wanted to be treated, as friend’s first, open and honest. Not treated
like just another potential buyer looking to buy a goat.  We feel this is the best
approach in doing business. We hope you will feel the same.

Regards,
Micah & Vickie Caudill
